CHIANG RAI – Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued rain warnings to residents in the northern, northeastern and eastern regions from Thursday through Saturday as many provinces are still confront severe floods.

The Central district of Chiang Rai has been affected by flooding caused by flash floods. Local disaster prevention and mitigation offices have distributed aid to the flood-affected people.

Parts of Phahonyothin road between Mueang and Mae Chan districts has been heavily submerged by high and strong floods. Many houses in five villages in Mueang district have been flooded. Some of them, especially those near water courses, have been many meters deep in the water.

Disaster prevention and mitigation officers in the province have assisted the affected villagers, most of them were not prepared for the flooding and they were not able to pack their belongings in time. Roads in many villages were cut off by over 50-centimeter flood water.

Chiang Rai Officials have continued searching for a school director in Phaya Mengrai district who had been swept away by forest runoff last Friday.
