Sheetz Drops Gas Prices To $1.85 a Gallon - But There's a Catch

(CTN News) – Sheetz, a chain of gas stations, will again reduce gas prices through April. However, there is a catch: the discounted price applies only to a certain type of fuel.

On Monday, Sheetz announced a reduction in the price of E85 (flex fuel) from April 17 to midnight on April 30. On Monday, the national average for a gallon of gasoline was $3.67, according to AAA.

The Sheetz chain has locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and North Carolina. It is anticipated that the price drop will be available at the chain’s 375 locations throughout the six states where E85 is sold.

It is necessary to ensure that your vehicle is compatible with E85 gas in order to take advantage of this promotion.

It is approved for use in “flexible fuel vehicles,” which are designed to run on gasoline or gasoline-ethanol blends of up to 85% ethanol.

A study conducted by the Department of Sheetz Energy found that E85 contained between 51% and 83% ethanol, making it a cleaner burning fuel than other fuel grades. The high octane and clean burning characteristics of E85 make it a popular low-cost alternative for drivers whose cars are capable of using it.

Are you unsure whether or not you can use flex fuel? There is an online tool that you can use to find out. Click here to enter the manufacturer of your vehicle and find out.

Your car may also have a yellow gas cap or a badge that indicates it is a “flex fuel” vehicle if it accepts E85. You should also check your owner’s manual to determine what type of gasoline your vehicle can handle.

Since the 1990s, flexible fuel vehicles have been manufactured, and these Sheetz vehicles operate without loss of performance when running on E85, and some generate more torque and horsepower than when running on gasoline.

Despite this, flex fuel vehicles will get fewer miles to the gallon when using E85 because ethanol produces less energy than conventional gasoline.

A reminder is provided by Sheetz that E85 is clearly identified as a different type of fuel and should not be used in a standard vehicle.

According to Progressive, if you fill your car with E85 when the vehicle is not designed to run on flex fuel, your check engine light will likely illuminate. One time mistakes may not be a major issue, but repeated mistakes could result in serious corrosion, according to the insurer.

It is also possible for your engine warranty to be voided if you accidently fill your car with E85 fuel, according to Progressive. In other words, it is possible that you will be responsible for the repairs, even if your vehicle is brand new.
