Foreign Tourists Rescued from Raging Flood Waters at Chiang Mai Waterfall
CHIANG MAI – Two foreign women were saved after a flash runoff stranded them on a rock at Mae Sa waterfall in Chiang Mai waterfall on Friday.
The foreign women had been visiting the Mae Sa waterfall with five other friends when the incident occurred. A sudden rush of water left the pair unable to cross the stream and they were left standing on a rock, said officials of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Chiang Mai.
A video clip posted on the @jane_chiangmai Twitter account showed rescuers had to tie ropes to trees on both banks of the stream to reach and help the women.
After the incident at 3pm, officials of Doi Suthep-Pui National Park announced the temporary closure of Mae Sa waterfall as the strong currents posed a danger to visitors.
