Two Chinese Tourists Killed in Chiang Mai after Being Run Over by Sedan

CHIANG MAI – A 44 year old Chinese man and his partner have been killed in the Northern Province of Chiang Mai after their motorcycle was hit from behind by a white sedan on a downhill bend near the Thai Elephant Conservation and Training Centre.

Provincial police reported that Wong Siu-ming, 44, was riding a motorbike with his female companion, 28 year-old Hung Fangwei, along the Lampang Chiang Mai Highway in northern Thailand when they were hit by a car that was apparently went out of control Saturday night.

Miss Hung Fangwei, 28 sustained head injuries and died on the spot, while 44 year-old Wong Siu-ming died on the way to the hospital. The Thai driver of the sedan that hit them was injured and later arrested by local authorities, the police said.

On Monday, the Immigration Department said that after learning about the crash it contacted the Hong Kong office of the Commissioner of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chinese consulate in Chiang Mai, to learn about the case.

A spokesman for the department said officers had contacted the family members of the deceased and offered help.
