Sony Unveils PS5 Slim Model And Ultra HD Blu-ray Drive For PS5 Digital Edition – Pricing
(CTN NEWS) – In November, Sony Interactive Entertainment is set to unveil an updated version of the PS5, featuring a more compact and lighter design.
Alongside this, SIE is introducing the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive attachment for the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which lacks an integrated Blu-ray drive.
The new, slimmer PlayStation 5 model from Sony has seen significant reductions in size and weight, with a volume reduction of over 30%, and weight decreases of 18% and 24% compared to its predecessors.
The notably tall PS5 has been trimmed by 33 mm (equivalent to 1.25 inches) in height and 44 mm (approximately 1.73 inches) in width.
In terms of weight, the updated standard PS5 model sheds about 1.3 kg (approximately 3 pounds). Detailed dimensions and specifications for these new models can be found below.
The standard PlayStation 5 model maintains its price, with the redesigned version set to launch next month at $499.99.
However, the PS5 Digital Edition will see a price increase as part of the revamp, now retailing at $449.99 upon release. (The original PS5 Digital Edition was initially priced at $399 back in 2020.)

Important Note: This add-on drive is compatible only with the new model of the PS5 Digital Edition, as confirmed by a Sony representative to Polygon.
The refreshed PS5 models will initially be available in the U.S. at select retailers and through Sony’s PlayStation Direct website starting in November. A global release will follow in the subsequent months, as announced by Sony.
