Is Blue Beetle Up To The New DCU Challenge?

(CTN News) – It’s fair to say that the ongoing Blue Beetle DC Comics film franchise has been a cascade of disasters. James Gunn has now taken over, despite the insufferable fanbase’s unending fury.

Several projects announced during the previous era are still being worked on. Among them, Blue Beetle might be the most interesting.

Gunn has assumed control of the DCU as the main creative director and plans to shake things up. It is likely that Shazam 2 and The Flash will continue to be a part of the franchise for years to come, but a less familiar character like Blue Beetle could change everything.

What’s the deal with Blue Beetle?

A long-awaited cinematic debut is being made by underground hero Jaime Reyes. Reyes has been a part of the DC Comics continuity since the mid-1960s, when the Blue Beetle was first introduced.

There were several companies that hired the Beetle, including Fox Comics, Charlton Comics, and DC Comics. The third beetle has nothing in common with the first two.

After Ted Kord’s death, Reyes joined the fold. By bonding with an alien scarab, Jaime Reyes gets a living armor and a suite of energy weapons.

He started as a scarab hero, but he’s slowly gotten ahold of his powers. Booster Gold’s iconic double-act has made him a beloved character, thanks to the hit cartoon Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

After college, Blue Beetle will catch Jaime Reyes. While he’s been living it up in college, he’s on his way home. A key part of Jaime’s story will be his Hispanic family.

Reyes will get superpowers after returning to Palmera City and being attached to the typical scarab. Kord’s role in the story seems to have shifted dramatically, as his name is on a skyscraper and attached to the villain. He’ll have to battle Victoria Kord and Carapax, the Indestructible Man.

Is Blue Beetle a good fit for James Gunn’s DC Universe?

Warner Bros. has promised to make Blue Beetle since at least 2018. An announcement came one month before Aquaman’s release and one year after Justice League’s original cut. When Walter Hamada revived the brand, he came up with a clever scheme.

Each movie would be released directly on HBO Max, as Hamada imagined. It would allow for multiple DCEU projects to come out each year, fueling hype for the big ones.

In theory, this would have fixed a lot of the franchise’s top-down problems, but it would have required an executive to release a film that might not make $1 billion.

They ditched the smart pitch for every blockbuster, which is slowly killing the film industry.
Batgirl was killed by Blue Beetle’s burning ship.

This isn’t part of Hamada’s DCEU fix. It’s the first DCU movie. The movie will stand alone, but it’s heavily linked to what’s coming up. Blue Beetle could be the beginning of the DCU’s first arc, although Superman: Legacy is still two years away.

James Gunn has a long schedule of upcoming projects, but Beetle stands out. No surprise Gunn has also announced Booster Gold TV. There’s been a demand for Blue & Gold for years, and it’s a good idea. Beetle can also be recurring for characters like Peacemaker and Batman.
