Narcotics Suppression officers have arrested five suspected drug traders in Chiang Mai
Narcotics Suppression officers have arrested five suspected drug traders in Chiang Mai and seized more than 8 million baht worth of crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice.
The five men were apprehended on the San Kamphaeng-Doi Saket road in Chiang Mai’s Doi Saket district at around noon on Sunday in a police sting operation. The suspects were allegedly delivering about 6kg of ice to police informants.
Police said the drugs have an estimated street value of 8.4 million baht. The men have been charged with possessing and trafficking in illicit drugs.
Police said the suspects were believed to be from a drug trafficking gang based in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
Three pickup trucks, a motorcycle, five mobile phones, two bank passbooks and three ATM cards were also confiscated.
Police said the suspects admitted they received the drugs, smuggled via the Thai-Burmese border in the North, from a Shan drug trafficking network.
