Threads Now Supports Hashtags.
(CTN News) – On Thursday, Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that Tags, which are essentially hashtags with a unique feature, are now being introduced worldwide on Threads.
Unlike traditional hashtags on platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), Tags function in a slightly different manner.
When creating a Threads post, you initiate a tag by tapping the # symbol and entering your desired topic. The distinction lies in the fact that you are not restricted to a single word; instead, you can compose an entire phrase (including spaces!) and incorporate special characters, as explained by Mosseri.
However, it is important to note that only one tag can be added per post.
The purpose of tags on Threads is similar to that of hashtags. According to Mosseri, if you share on Threads, tags are a great tool to connect with people who have an interest in the topics you’re discussing.
Additionally, they provide an excellent opportunity for everyone to delve deeper into their interests.
I appreciate Meta’s implementation of tags, including the restriction of having only one tag per post. This approach appears to be a clever way to prevent the annoyance of hashtag spam.
However, it remains to be seen whether users will actually embrace the use of tags and if they will truly become a valuable means of discovering conversations about specific topics. I’m hoping to come across some tags related to The Game Awards tonight when I cover the event.
Meta initially began testing tags with users in Australia back in November.
