Chiang Rai Authorities find 700,000 Meth Pills in an Abandoned Truck
.
CHIANG RAI – Authorities in Chiang Rai have recovered approximately 700,000 meth (Yaba) tablets from an abandoned Mitsubishi pickup truck in Muang district.
Authorities well called to Mae Khaotom-Tha Khampluek Road on Wednesday evening about an abandoned truck that had been left near a rubber plantation for three days, police said on Thursday.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found seven black plastic packs in the back of the Mitsubishi truck with packages contaning about 700,000 speed pills, placed under fertilizer sacks.
An initial police check found the vehicle belonged to a used car dealer in Mae Chan district of Chiang Rai.
Pat Namwong, kamnan of tambon Mae Khaotom, said a local resident found the pickup parked near the plantation Monday, prompting him to alert authorities.
Police believed the abandoned drugs might have been smuggled from the Thai-Myanmar border and left by traffickers fearing arrest, as there were several road checkpoints in the area.
Officers planned to widen the investigation.
