Cold Spell is Coming, Signalling the Start of High Season in Chiang Rai
CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department Tuesday predicted that the cold weather will arrive and start the winter later this month.
Methi Mahayossanan, the director of the Northern Meteorological Office, said the high pressure mass had covered the lower part of China and upper part of Laos, resulting in drop of temperature in the North of Thailand.
He said the high pressure mass would cause Northern Thailand to have cold weather late September.
The unusual thick fog signals the upcoming cold season for this year and also the start of the tourism season in the northern tourist destinations. Motorists are warned of thick fog and poor visibility while driving on roads in the northern region.
Although several northern provinces are still faced rain and flooding the rainy season for the north will soon end and overall temperature will gradually drop, there will be rain alternating with cold weather until the middle of October, when the cold wind will arrive.
The Northern Meteorological Office predicts that the cold season will come early this year and stay longer than previous years.
