New Ride Safe and Study Hard Video Hits Home with Thai Parents
.
BANGKOK – A new safety video warns parents that buying motorcycles for their teenage children could be a fatal mistake.
The video, posted on Krian Suksa (Pain-in-the-Neck Education) Facebook page on Wednesday, shows a common occurrence – a father presenting his young son with a new motorbike in exchange for good school grades.
The boy, in a school uniform, starts the engine and rides off, and a horrible but foreseeable event happens.
The video, produced by the Child Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center (CSIP), cautions that about 15,800 children are involved motorcycle-related accidents each year and 700 of them are killed. Most of the victims are between 12 and 15 years of age.
And one accident in three occurs within a kilometre of home.
