5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Roulette

The Roulette wheel has spun more times than planet Earth, all in the hopes that a player’s prediction becomes a reality as the wheel grinds to a halt to reveal where the small ball has landed.

The popularity of the game is only growing further with the help of online platforms offering computerised and live casino games of Roulette, whilst still being available within brick and mortar casino establishments.

It’s therefore no wonder players all over the world are looking to see how they can develop their skills and knowledge of the game, to help them feel more like a pro when stepping up to the iconic table.

To get you sounding more like a pro, as well as to wow your friends with your Roulette knowledge, we’ve selected five facts that you probably didn’t know about Roulette, which can be found below.

If you’re ready to potentially discover something new about this casino classic, scroll down to continue.

1. The Devil’s Game

Did you know, that in many parts of the world, Roulette is referred to as ‘The Devil’s Game’? This is due to the fact that when you add all the numbers on the iconic wheel together, it totals to 666.

With many cultures believing this is the sign and number of the devil himself, Roulette has been given this nickname.

2. Opposite Directions

When a game is in play, the wheel is spun one way and the ball entered into play spins in the opposite direction to the wheel.

Not only does this help the ball to bounce around the wheel, making that iconic bouncing noise, but it allows dealers to change the way the wheel and ball are spun each game, keeping everyone on their toes.

In many casinos around the world, they have a rule in place that the wheel and ball must be spun in the opposite direction to the last game. This increases the randomness of where the ball will land and helps keep all games fair.

3. Is the number 17 lucky?

It is believed that the number 17 is the most wagered number of all numbers found on the table and wheel. However, this doesn’t guarantee a win when you do.

In actual fact, it is said that 17 is picked mostly by players due to its position on the table layout. It seems to be the first number all players see when approaching the table as it lies slap bang in the middle.

3. A happy accident?

Believe it or not, the blueprints for the iconic wheel were invented by mistake when a science experiment conducted by Blaise Pascal didn’t go to plan.

Instead of inventing the perpetual motion machine, Pascal ended up creating the first blueprints that would soon become the most famous wheel in the world – the Roulette wheel.

4. Deemed rude at the table

When visiting a physical casino establishment, it is deemed rude to take a drink to the Roulette table. Any other game table accepts drinks at the table, just not the Roulette table.

So, if you have a drink in your hand, you’ll need to finish before taking a seat at the Roulette table.
