Snapchat Adds Image Creation Capabilities To Its AI Chatbot

(CTN News) – On Wednesday, Snap Inc (SNAP.N) announced that it could respond to users’ messages with fully AI-generated images, as it deepens its artificial intelligence work.

Snap made the announcement at its annual Partner Summit. As a result of the technology, the company hopes to accelerate the development of augmented reality (AR) features, which are computer-generated images overlayed on top of real-life photos and videos.

Generative artificial intelligence has captured the attention of the technology industry in recent months, as it is capable of generating original text or photos in response to a prompt.

In order to build chatbot, My AI, which can assist users with everything from writing poems to searching for information, the company used OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology.

According to Snap, My AI is now available free of charge to all users and can be invoked to respond to questions in conversations between friends. The chatbot was initially available to subscribers to Snapchat+, the company’s premium subscription service.

It is possible for my artificial intelligence to assist users in exploring more of the Snapchat app by recommending lenses, which can be used to enhance photos and videos, or by recommending real-world places to visit, according to Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO.

‘This is the first time we are integrating AI into communication, which is at the heart of our service,’ he said. My AI is really being used as a creative tool by people.”

As the first platform to provide My AI’s ability to respond to users with its own AI-generated images, Snapchat+, which has reached more than 3 million subscribers, will be the first platform to offer this capability.

A growing concern has been raised regarding the possibility that AI chatbots could plagiarize published works, provide inaccurate information, or deliver harmful responses to queries.

As part of the new safety guardrails added to My AI, it temporarily restricted access to the chatbot if a user repeatedly asked it inappropriate or harmful questions.

Snapchat analyzes conversations with My AI and has found that 99.5% of the chatbot’s responses are in compliance with the company’s community guidelines, according to Spiegel.

As part of My AI, a user’s age will now also be taken into consideration in order to ensure that the conversation is age-appropriate.

Santa Monica, California-based company also unveiled new AR mirrors on Wednesday, which customers can use to virtually try on clothing items or see which accessories would complement their attire.

Snap said Nike and Men’s Warehouse are using the mirrors in some stores.

They are part of a new enterprise division launched last month to assist other companies with the development of AR experiences for their own apps and websites. This venture may also enable Snap to diversify beyond digital advertising, which currently accounts for the majority of its revenues.
