Air Conditioner

Leaking water from your air conditioner is an annoying problem you need to solve quickly. But first, you must identify the leak’s cause and act accordingly. The biggest mistake people make is trying to solve A/C leaking water using some “quick fix” like a pot or bucket. It will only exacerbate the issue, so it’s important to remember that solving the problem means identifying its root cause and fixing it before proceeding with any other methods.

  • The condensate drain is clogged:

The condensate drain in an air conditioning unit is usually the first place to look when water comes pouring out of the A/C. It is a small, usually plastic or metal, pipe that runs from the drain pan (which holds the water) back to the unit’s evaporator coils, where people can drain it.

Unfortunately, it’s often clogged by dirt or other foreign matter and needs to be unclogged by washing it with hot water or some detergent. The water in the drain pan will also need to be emptied. It is essential to prevent leftover water from being injected back into your house.

  • Water level sensor leak:

While many A/C units have built-in water level sensors, if yours doesn’t, you’ll need to measure how much water is flowing out of the team and install some external device inside it.

The most common one is a small bucket (or plastic pot) that you can stick on the drain tube, which will detect how much liquid comes out. If facing any of these issues, you should immediately contact an expert like Adam’s Air of Amarillo. Any device that can detect excess water flowing out should work.

  • The drain line is disconnected:

If the condensate drain works correctly, the water should go into it and not back into your home. The line has probably been disconnected or blocked if this is the case. Check for any obstruction and make sure that everything is connected correctly.

It can often happen where the line connects to the A/C unit or splits off into different parts of your house. Similar to other issues, if this happens, then unclogging will be required. However, this might be harder as there might be few places for water to go further than back into your home through pipes.

  • The condensate pump is broken:

The condensate pump is usually a relatively small, typically plastic or metal device that sits in the drain tank and pushes the water up to the drain. It is essential to keep it lubricated to work correctly and avoid rusting or clogging. If you notice a leaking condensate pump, washing out the drain pan (and possibly the unit itself) with hot water should do the trick.

  • The air filter is dirty:

The air filter in the ductwork between the condenser and evaporator coils is usually a sealed unit. It means you can’t easily see inside of it, and there is no easy way to clean it. It means that when it gets dirty, especially with dust or dirt, it must be replaced or cleaned with some detergent or soap.

You can get an easy solution by calling an HVAC technician who is certified and competent. The professional will diagnose the problem and suggest the appropriate solution. Also, you can buy a user guide on the internet for your particular model. It’s a good practice to clean or replace the air filter regularly so your unit works efficiently.
