Tour Bus Carrying 25 French Tourists Crashes in Chiang Rai’s Mae Lao District
CHIANG RAI – Lt. Col. Manit Khantajayo, Deputy Director of Mae Lao Police Station has informed Thai Media that a bus with 25 French tourists traveling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai crashed in Mae Lao District, injuring 5 of the foreign passengers.
Lt. Col. Manit said when police and rescue workers arrived on the scene at around 4:30pm in the afternoon they found the bus on its side with injured passengers unconscious inside the bus and others cry with minor injuries on the roadside.
He said Rescue workers had to enter through the roof of the bus to gain access to the severely injured passengers.
Four or five of the severely injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, the remaining passengers and Thai tour guide were treated at the scene for minor injuries and later taken to Mae Lao hospital for a checkup.
The driver of the bus Mr. Natthapol Klinchuen who stayed at the scene said that he lost control of the bus in a heavy rain shower after he applied his brakes and the bus skidded off the road and overturned.
Police are investigating further Lt. Col. Manit said speed may have been a contributing factor to the accident however no charges have been laid at this time and police are continuing to investigate.
