CHIANG RAI – Police officers in Chiang Rai and across the country will be deployed in an effort to prevent impaired driving violation during the holidays.

According to a spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, the prime minister, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, had instructed all police officers to be on a heightened sense of alert during the New Year while helping to facilitate the travelling of holiday makers.

In addition to safety measures, the Thai Police will enforce strict traffic regulations against driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Vehicles will be impounded while drunk drivers will face serious charges. All of the seized vehicles will be released back to owners after the holiday.

Military personnel along the Northern borders will be on a 24-hour lookout for illegal activities.
