CHIANG RAI – Members of Girl’s Day have revealed photos from their recent volunteer work in Chiang Rai Thailand.

Girl’s Day agency, Dream Tea Entertainment, revealed today that the members had travelled to Chiang Rai in Thailand in August, where they visited girls who had married early and their children and were living in difficult conditions.

The girls took an hour to travel from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, and then another 3 hours before reaching their final destination of Phan District. There were many women living in the rural mountainous village that had wed early and had brought up their children alone, while there were also many who were left to fend for themselves after their fathers had deserted them.

Girl’s Day met a woman named Namiki who had wed at just 16 years old but was abandoned by her husband. She now lives in difficult conditions with her 1 year old son, and the members of Girl’s Day could truly experience for themselves the difficulties of women living in developing countries.

To allow Namiki to feel the warmth of family, the members took photos with Namiki, and also brought her for a check-up at a local hospital. In addition, the members also headed to an education centre which seeks to fulfil the aspirations of women in need.

Girl’s Day expressed, “They have to bring up their children at such a young age, and we feel for them, upon seeing that the future of their children isn’t a rosy one. This volunteer activity allows us to reflect on ourselves. They should be out in the world working for their future, but are met with a situation of having to marry early. Although this is only volunteer work, we were able to derive many meanings of life from them. There are still many things to do in future, and we want to thank those who gave us the opportunity to participate in this meaningful volunteer work.”

Girl’s Day were named as ambassadors for Plan Korea at Everland Caribbean Bay last month. Chiang Rai was the girls’ first stop, and they will be continuing with more volunteer work in future.
