Ministry of Labour Head to Visit Chiang Rai’s Special Economic Zones

CHIANG RAI – The Department of Employment (DOE) Director-General Arrug Phrommanee has revealed that the Ministry of Labour is set to visit Chiang Rai province to observe the preparedness in labour affairs during the second phase of development for the province’s Special Economic Zones, including Mae Sai, Chiang Saen, and Chiang Kong.
The Ministry will be focusing on the practices regarding the movement of foreign labour working in the SEZs. Migrant labor from neighboring countries are currently permitted to cross the border and work on a daily basis, with a maximum stay of 30 days in Thailand.
The progress of the Chiang Saen International Labour Skills Development Center will also be assessed. The center’s objective is to support the cooperation among the Mekong River countries on labour skills development, learning, and exchanges on labour standards innovation, and to act as an industry cluster in Chiang Rai, prior to the broader implementation at other provinces.
