CHIANG RAI – The Governor of Chiang Rai, Mr. Chucheep Pongchai, ordered a raid under the “Chiang Rai Fah Sai” operation after complaints about a karaoke venue in Mae Lao district staying open past legal hours and disturbing nearby residents.
The operation took place at 1:45 AM on March 20, 2026. It followed the government’s policy to crack down on human trafficking and illegal entertainment venues.
Earlier, on the evening of March 19, undercover officers went in to check the business and found a large number of customers inside, along with 13 women providing service.
Later that night, officers searched the venue, which was located in the Dong Mada subdistrict. They found the business was operating like an entertainment venue without a license. The site had four VIP rooms and several service tables for customers.
During the inspection, authorities found 13 female workers. Of them, seven were Thai nationals, and six were foreign nationals. Officers also found two workers under 18 years old, ages 16 and 17, serving customers.
At first, authorities charged the venue owner with operating an unlicensed entertainment business, employing underage workers, and selling alcohol outside the legal time limit.
Meanwhile, all workers were taken into the next step of screening to determine whether any were victims of human trafficking.
