CHIANG RAI – Deputy Government Spokesperson Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd, held a press conference following Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, announcing that the cabinet has agreed to use the central budget as a cash reserve for emergency purposes to help those who were affected by disasters during the period between June 2014 until February 2015.
Disasters include floods, droughts, dry spells, pest outbreaks, and plant diseases for Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, and Uttaradit.
The cabinet agreed the central budget of 681 million baht to support 61,722 farmers in a total of 16 provinces.
Major General Sansern added that the Department of Agriculture, Department of Fisheries, and Department of Livestock have been asked to check their documents and gather information that will be sent to the Budget Bureau for approval. The request will also be sent on behalf of the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives as well.
The cabinet meeting also discussed what measures the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives could implement to insure farmer’s produce yields, in an effort to reduce the burden on the budget and increase compensation for farmers. – NNT
