Government Launched Mental Health App To Detect Depression At Onset

(CTN News) – Department of Mental Health and collaborators have developed an app to identify depression’s early signs. Using the Mor Prom app on your smartphone, you can download the app.

More than 1.5 million Thais suffer from depression, and over 4,000 people commit suicide every year. A further 53,000 people have attempted suicide.

The app has encouraged the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Chanchai Sittipunt. According to him, the application will shorten the amount of time required for an initial screening, can act as a tool to detect depression, and uses artificial intelligence.

The lack of medical personnel in Thailand limits access to psychiatric services. Screening and early detection are very important for tackling the disease.”

Yesterday, Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering, as well as the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, released the application.

The results of the assessment are divided into 3 main categories of symptoms, each of which is displayed in a different color. Symptoms are indicated by green, yellow, and red signals.

Depression can be triggered by ongoing problems such as the poor economy and the Covid-19 outbreak. Mental illness can also be caused by genetic factors.

If a case is severe, professional assistance is recommended, as well as the department’s phone number.
