Apple Workers Vote To Unionize At Maryland Store
(CTN News) – Nearly 2-to-1, Apple store employees in a Baltimore suburb voted to unionize. Retail, service, and tech workers are joining a growing movement to organize for better workplace conditions.
On Saturday, employees voted 65-33 to unionize through the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
The National Labor Relations Board would have to certify the vote’s outcome before it can be confirmed. An NLRB spokeswoman referred initial questions about the vote to its regional office, which was closed late Saturday. Apple’s spokesperson declined to comment.
The employees of an Apple store in a Baltimore suburb voted on Saturday to unionize by more than two-to-one, joining a growing movement to unionize across the U.S. retail, service, and tech industries.
An announcement from the union said Apple retail workers in Towson, Maryland, voted 65-33 to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. NLM would have to certify the vote’s outcome before it could be confirmed.
Initial questions about the vote were referred to the NLRB’s regional office, which was closed late Saturday.
Apple spokesperson Josh Lipton declined to comment on Saturday’s development. Since decades of decline in U.S. union membership, union organizing has gained momentum in a variety of fields.
Amazon, Starbucks, Google parent company Alphabet, and REI are among the companies at which unions have been formed.
