PHITSANULOK – Police are questioning the wife of a handicapped man after he plunged from a bridge into an irrigation canal in Phitsanulok on Friday. The incident took place behind the Phlai Chumphon sub-district municipality office.
While his wife claims he accidentally fell out of their car after getting confused, newly uncovered security camera footage tells a much darker story. The video shows the car stopping, the driver walking to the passenger side, and the helpless man falling into the water alongside a black trash bag. This shocking footage has sparked a massive public outcry and left local authorities searching for the true reason behind the plunge.
According to MGR Online, when local rescue workers first arrived to help the struggling man, a woman drove up in a white sedan. She introduced herself as the victim’s wife. She told a very simple story to the emergency responders. She said they had just left their home in the Hua Ro sub-district to go to Fort Somdej Naresuan Maharas Hospital for his medical checkup.
According to her, when they reached the small bridge over the irrigation canal, her husband became confused. She claimed he thought they had already arrived at the hospital. Because of this sudden confusion, she said he opened the car door and accidentally tumbled into the deep water below.
However, the head of the local disaster prevention team, Sergeant Major Niwet Jiamsan, felt something was wrong. The story did not make sense. To get to the truth, he decided to check the local closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. The footage he found completely changed the narrative.
The Shocking CCTV Timeline
The video recordings from the municipal cameras captured the entire event. The footage revealed a step-by-step sequence that completely contradicted the wife’s explanation. Here is the exact timeline of what the cameras recorded:
- 10:31 AM: A white sedan drives from the Phitsanulok-Sukhothai road. It drives along the canal and turns onto the old bridge behind the municipal office. The car then parks directly in the middle of the bridge.
- 10:34 AM: The driver opens the door and steps out of the vehicle. The driver then walks around the back of the car to the left-hand passenger side. Shortly after, the sick man falls directly into the water. A black trash bag also falls into the canal right next to him.
- Moments later, the car does not stop to help. Instead, the driver pulls away, turns left, and heads toward the bypass road. The camera shows the desperate man trying to swim and finally clinging to the bridge pillar to stay alive.
- The Return: A short time later, the white car drives back past the scene but does not stop to help the drowning man.
- 10:45 AM: Municipal workers happen to drive by the canal. They spot the exhausted man clinging to the concrete pillar. They immediately stop their truck, call for emergency rescue teams, and grab life jackets to save him.
The Rescue and the Victim’s Condition
The rescue teams arrived quickly to pull the man from the cold water. They found him in a state of extreme exhaustion. He had minor injuries from the fall but was mostly suffering from severe fatigue. Because of his underlying muscle weakness condition, he had no energy left to keep himself afloat for much longer.
During the rescue operation, the white sedan returned to the scene once more. This time, the driver stopped on the bridge and identified herself as the wife. The emergency teams quickly transported the man to Fort Somdej Naresuan Maharas Hospital for urgent medical care.
Currently, the man remains in the hospital under the close watch of medical doctors. His condition makes the situation even more difficult to solve. Because of his severe muscle illness, he cannot speak clearly. He is unable to tell his side of the story or answer questions. He can only nod his head. This makes the CCTV footage the absolute most important piece of evidence in the case.
Despite the clear video evidence, the police have not yet made any arrests. Police Colonel Watcharapong Sitthirungroj, the chief of the Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, confirmed the current legal status of the event. He stated that no one has stepped forward to file a formal complaint or press charges.
However, local authorities and the public are demanding answers. The local disaster prevention office is still reviewing all the facts to figure out exactly what happened. The community wants to know if this was truly a terrible accident or a deliberate act of harm. Until the police launch a full criminal investigation, the truth remains hidden beneath the waters of the Phitsanulok canal.
