Red Wings Beat Kraken 4-3 In Overtime On Chiarot's Goal

(CTN News) – The Detroit Red Wings beat the Seattle Kraken 4-3 on Monday with a goal by Ben Chiarot in overtime and an assist by Patrick Kane for his 800th career assist.

Dylan Larkin’s backhand pass enabled Chiarot to score from the slot, beating Joey Daccord. This was the defenseman’s fourth goal of the season and his first since December 31.

“Balanced scoring has been our key to success all season,” said Detroit coach Derek Lalonde. As a forward group, we always talk about how much scoring we are getting through our depth. Also, our defense is contributing significantly.”

Daniel Sprong, Moritz Seider, and Lucas Raymond each scored in regulation for the Red Wings, who completed a 2-2-0 road trip with back-to-back victories. Since January 1, Detroit has posted a 12-4-2 record and holds the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Lyon made 38 saves and recovered well from the Red Wings earlier in the trip when he allowed 11 combined goals in losses to Edmonton and Vancouver.

Lyon explained that it is just a blip on the radar that must be treated as such. In spite of the fact that it feels bad at the moment, you have to recognize the bigger picture. You have to know that things will always turn around if you work hard and do the right things.

There was a milestone assist at the 13:30 mark of the first Red Wings period when Kane fed Seider for the game’s first goal, which was the game’s first goal. As Kane’s pass was one-timed, Seider fired a slapshot from the point after he received a pass from Kane.

Joining Phil Housley (894) and Mike Modano (813), Kane became the third American-born player to reach 800 career assists in the NHL’s history. This year’s Hart Trophy winner has an assist in five consecutive games and is ranked 33rd in NHL career assist statistics.

Kane, who signed with Detroit on Nov. 28, made a significant impact on Lalonde’s room. Our group has benefited greatly from this piece.

The Kraken have been 4-7-2 since a nine-game winning streak, a franchise record. Jared McCann scored twice for the Kraken. Daccord stopped 28 shots, while Jaden Schwartz added two assists.

Seattle coach Dave Hakstol stated that it was disappointing to lose the point in overtime, but that the point we secured was valuable. So that’s how things are at this time of year. Memory is short.”

The score was tied at 1 when Red Wings McCann scored on the power play with 1:28 left in the first period. The shot was taken from the left circle after he received a pass from Vince Dunn.

During the second quarter, Red Wings, Raymond knocked in a rebound to give Detroit a 2-1 advantage. The goal was his 16th of the season and his third in the past five games.
