On October 24, The Blackhawks Faced Off Against The Bruins With a 1-Timer

(CTN News) – The Chicago Blackhawks are facing one of the toughest schedules in the NHL to start the season, as they play the Boston Bruins in their third consecutive undefeated game on Tuesday night at the United Center.

As it turned out, this was the second matchup between the two teams this season, with Boston winning the first game 3–1 on Oct. 11 at TD Garden, which was the opener of the season. Jeremy Swayman started in goal for the Boston Bruins against the Blackhawks’ Petr Mrazek in goal.

This was Philipp Kurashev’s first appearance as a member of the Hawks in the regular season. Earlier in the day, Taylor Hall was placed on the injured list retroactively to Oct. 21, with a left shoulder injury, which he sustained in Boston earlier in the day.

The Blackhawks thought that they had grabbed a 1–0 lead in the first period after Connor Bedard scored on a one-timer off a turnover during the power play after a turnover.

The Bruins, however, challenged the play on the grounds that it was offside. A lengthy video review resulted in the Bruins winning the challenge and Bedard’s third career goal was rescinded as a result. In the end, there would be a score of 0–0 at the end of the period.

In the second period, the Bruins opened the scoring when a wide-open Pavel Zacha tip-tipped a point shot from Kevin Shattenkirk past Mrazek at the 3:49 mark of the period.

In the case of Zacha, it was his first goal of the season, while in the case of Shattenkirk, it was his first point for the Bruins this season. In the second intermission, the Bruins would take a 1–0 lead into the locker room as the Blackhawks’ offense continued to lag behind.

Despite coming out of the locker room with a bit of energy in the third period, the Hawks were unable to show for it.

As the Bruins took a 2–0 lead at the 4:06 mark of the second period, rookie Matthew Poitras was able to take advantage of a Corey Perry turnover and beat the former Hart Trophy winner in a footrace and scored his third goal of the season on a breakaway to give them the lead.

In just 56 seconds, Trent Frederic Blackhawks scored his second goal of the season to give Boston a 3–0 lead over the Washington Capitals.

Charlie Coyle skated in on the rush and shot it from the left circle that Mrazek stopped but it left a rebound on the ice.

As a result of multiple Bruins colliding with the goal, Frederic tapped in the loose puck to extend Boston’s lead. In the end, the score remained the same until the final buzzer as the Blackhawks were unable to generate much offense in the final minutes.

The Bruins shot 43 shots at Mrazek, and Swayman managed to stop all 23 of them, while the Bruins fired 23 shots at him.
