CHIANG RAI – Border Patrol Police and soldiers from the Pha Muang Task Forces have seized 4.3 million meth pills after chasing down a speeding pickup full of Meth Pills that crashed and rolled over: the suspects fired shots and bolted into the jungle.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Worapat Bunma, head of Border Patrol Region 3, told reporters that they received a tip-off that smugglers would be hauling a big load of drugs from the Thai-Myanmar border into the country.
At 7:30 AM, they spotted a suspicious Toyota Pickup, bronze in color, with Chiang Rai license plates, driving at an unusually high speed near a three-way intersection. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle for inspection, the driver sped away, leading to a pursuit.
The chase continued to Ban Lao Sip, Mae Salong Nok Subdistrict, Mae Fah Luang District, Chiang Rai Province, on a narrow and bumpy farmland road. The vehicle swerved off the road, and the driver and passengers, using their knowledge of the area, fled into the nearby forest.
Officers searched the wrecked truck. They found 20 modified sacks inside. Each held about 200,000 meth pills. That added up to roughly 4.3 million tablets total. They seized it all and handed it to investigators at Mae Fa Luang Police Station.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Worapat said they plan to track down the fugitives for arrest.
