Splash Mountain At Disney World Runs Dry As The Iconic Ride Closes

(CTN News) – On Sunday, Disney World’s Splash Mountain closed for the last time. Since 1992, it has been in operation.

Splash Mountain, which is considered a Disney staple by many fans, began renovations on Monday.

A petition with over 21,000 signatures stating that the ride is “steeped in extremely problematic and stereotypical racist tropes” led Disney to announce in June 2020 that it would reimagine the ride after growing complaints due to its association with the 1946 film Song of the South.

A specific date has not yet been announced for the closure of California’s Splash Mountain, which opened in 1989. In late 2024, both rides will be reopened as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

There has been no mention of the 1992 Japanese version of the ride in statements surrounding the redesign.

It was reported by Thrill Data that some fans of Splash Mountain in Orlando had waited as long as three hours for their final run on Sunday.

Wait times have been higher than usual for the past month, according to the company. In response to this, some fans became outraged at the prospect that the ride would be closed.

They started a petition in an effort to stop the closure, but to no avail.

The list of rides at Disney World has already been updated to remove Splash Mountain from the list of rides on the website.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Splash Mountain in the past due to the fact that the theme park is built on a movie.

Therefore, it is based on a popular film. It is significant to note that after the Civil War, Song of the South takes place on a plantation in Georgia, depicting an idyllic master-slave relationship that, as stated by the NAACP in 1946, was a distortion of the facts in those days.

Similarly, in the film Splash Mountain, which was also based on the film, animatronics were used to represent the characters.

In order for the upcoming ride to be successful, it will be based on the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog.

This was the film that introduced Tiana as the first black Disney princess. In 2020, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the movie Song of the South would no longer be available for streaming on Disney Plus.

This is because the movie was not suitable to watch in the modern world.

According to Disney’s original announcement, the redesign is a continuation of the tradition of updating attractions and adding new magic to their parks as part of their continuing tradition.

The newly designed ride will be designed to “give guests a sense of connection and inspiration that reflects the diversity of the millions of visitors to our parks each year.

It reflects a long-standing tradition of updating attractions and adding new features.”
