CHIANG RAI – Cyber police have shut down a major illegal gambling operation right in the heart of Chiang Rai. Officers raided a local house and arrested two key website administrators. This massive network handled more than 420 million baht in bets every single year.
The raid followed strict orders from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau to stop online gambling completely.
Investigators spent weeks tracking the money and gathering solid proof. They discovered two major platforms offering sports betting, slots, and card games. The websites used automatic bank transfers for fast and easy playing. Real people ran the customer service, helping users fix login issues and encouraging them to gamble more.
Key Takeaways:
- Massive Money Trail: The two illegal websites moved over 420 million baht every single year.
- Targeted Raid: Cyber police raided a secret base in Ban Du, Chiang Rai, arresting two veteran admins.
- Ongoing Investigation: Police are now hunting the wealthy masterminds hiding behind this huge gambling network.
Inside the Chiang Rai Cyber Raid
The first website, known as “whanmoo88,” made about 15 million baht every month. The second platform, called “SBOBET,” saw an even bigger cash flow of 20 million baht monthly. Police tracked both websites to a single house in the Ban Du area of Chiang Rai. After gathering enough clues, officers got a search warrant from the local court to enter the property safely.
The raid team quickly secured the house and arrested two main suspects. The suspects were identified as 40-year-old Ms. Phimon and her relative, 40-year-old Mr. Thanadon. Inside the house, police seized several items used to run the illegal websites. The evidence included three mobile phones, a laptop, a desktop computer, and fast internet gear.
Both suspects quickly confessed to working as customer support admins for the illegal websites. Ms. Phimon told police she worked for “whanmoo88” for two years, earning up to 15,000 baht a month. Mr. Thanadon admitted he worked for “SBOBET” for over ten years. He told officers he earned a steady salary of 23,500 baht each month.

The Fight Against Online Crime
Police charged both suspects with helping to advertise and run illegal online gambling operations. The two admins are now in custody waiting for their upcoming court dates. However, the police know these two are just small workers in a much bigger group.
Officers are now digging into the seized computers to find the main bosses. They want to trace the massive profits directly to the actual business owners. The Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau promises to keep fighting these illegal online networks. They hope this big arrest will scare other criminals away from opening new gambling sites.
