How Eddie Howe Has Transformed Newcastle In Rapid Fashion

Since the takeover by the Saudi Public Investment Fund in 2021 Newcastle United have experienced dramatic transformations.

The Magpies in just a matter of seasons have gone from battling relegation to fighting for a UEFA Champions League qualification spot.

But how did Eddie Howe manage to make Newcastle one of the strongest-performing teams in England so quickly?

Smart investment

Newcastle have made many signings since the new funds arrived following the takeover with Eddie Howe mainly focusing on homegrown signings who knew the league well and could fit into the squad seamlessly.

Nick Pope was a bargain acquisition from relegated Burnley in the summer before the current season for around £10 million.

His 12 clean sheets in 20 appearances so far have played a huge part in Newcastle’s rise to the top four positions.

In the Premier League football odds, Newcastle is now at -137.5 to finish in the UCL spots.

However, the best Premier League tips suggest that a late resurgence from Chelsea or Liverpool can not be written off, and Brighton and Hove Albion could also be a dark horse for qualification to Europe’s premier club competition.

Newcastle made several signings of experienced English internationals. The likes of Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett came in to occupy the fullback roles.

Eddie Howe established a solid core of experienced players who have the know-how of how to achieve results in the Premier League, while bedding in some of Europe’s top talents around them.

The former Bournemouth manager seems to have found the perfect balance of investing in Newcastle’s fortunes at present and building for the club’s future.

Improving players already at the club

While Newcastle following their takeover had a huge increase in the number of funds available in the transfer market, the rebuild had to begin gradually to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.

Therefore Eddie Howe has had to work with some of the players he already had at the club, who perhaps had not lived up to expectations in their careers in the North East so far.

Miguel Almiron is a notable player that Eddie Howe has elevated to unprecedented levels this season.

The Paraguayan has been one of Newcastle’s most in-form players with nine goals in the Premier League this term. This is a dramatic upturn in the Paraguayan’s goal contribution numbers as he managed the same amount of goals in his previous 110 appearances for the Magpies.

In truth, Eddie Howe has elevated the entire Newcastle squad to levels that the club has not reached for decades. The four-time champions of England are back competing towards the top of the English top flight and competing for major honors again.

Eddie Howe has already guided Newcastle to a final in the Carabao Cup in which they will play Manchester United at Wembley with the chance to end a 17-year wait for a major trophy victory. Next season the English coach could be guiding Newcastle out for European nights at St James’ Park.

The Toon could soon be back fighting amongst Europe’s elite yet again and Eddie Howe has been a major player in the club’s transformation since the huge takeover.
