BANGKOK –Vietjet Thailand has unveiled its strategy to strengthen Thailand’s regional aviation network, including a 50% increase in domestic flight frequencies and plans to develop Udon Thani International Airport into Northeastern Thailand’s aviation hub through expanded international connectivity.
The strategy was presented to Mr. Pattarapong Pattaraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, together with the Ministry of Transport’s advisory team and representatives from the Department of Airports, reaffirming Vietjet Thailand’s commitment to supporting regional economic growth while advancing Thailand’s position as a leading aviation hub in the region.
Mr. Pinyot Pibulsonggram, Vice President of Commercial and Customer Service of Vietjet Thailand, said the airline is committed to supporting the Ministry of Transport and the Department of Airports in enhancing the role of regional airports and expanding Thailand’s aviation network.
“Strengthening regional air connectivity is essential to improving Thailand’s competitiveness in tourism, trade, investment, and regional economic development,” Mr. Pinyot said. “Our expansion strategy reflects Vietjet Thailand’s long-term commitment to growing our network, increasing fleet capacity, and creating greater travel opportunities for both domestic and international passengers.”
As part of the plan, Vietjet Thailand will increase its domestic operations by 50%, from 98 to 147 flights per week, on round-trip services between Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) and key destinations including Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Krabi, Surat Thani, and Ubon Ratchathani.
The additional frequencies will improve travel convenience, support tourism growth, and strengthen connectivity between Bangkok and regional destinations, contributing to broader economic development across Thailand.
The airline is also accelerating efforts to enhance the role of regional airports, with Udon Thani International Airport serving as the cornerstone of its strategy. As one of Northeastern Thailand’s busiest airports, Udon Thani benefits from a strategic location within the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), connecting key economic zones and industrial centres while serving growing demand from both domestic and international travellers.
Beginning in July 2026, Vietjet Thailand will introduce international connecting services from Udon Thani via Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly to destinations across the airline’s international network—including Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, and other major cities—with a single check-in from their point of departure.
Looking ahead, the airline is studying the feasibility of launching direct international services between Udon Thani and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as Krabi and Ho Chi Minh City, by 2027. The proposed routes form part of Vietjet Thailand’s broader strategy to strengthen international connectivity and further position Thailand’s regional airports as gateways to the region.
Mr. Pattarapong Pattaraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, said, “The Ministry of Transport remains committed to supporting the development of aviation infrastructure while fostering collaboration with airlines and the private sector to enhance the potential of regional airports, expand international connectivity, and strengthen Thailand’s position as a sustainable regional aviation hub.”
