BANGKOK – Immigration police in northeastern Thailand’s Nong Khai have arrested a 26-year-old Lao man at a border checkpoint while he was allegedly trying to flee back to Laos, after murdering his girlfriend then dismembering her body.
His arrest comes after crime scene investigators from Pak Kret Police Station, along with officers from Thung Song Hong Police Station, discovered body parts of a woman in Pak Kret.
Earlier that same day immigration officers received information on the suspect from the Thung Song Hong investigation team who gathered information and searched CCTV footage, they identified as Mr. Tom, 26, a Lao national.
Immigration officers found him near the Nong Khai border crossing as he was reportedly searching for a way to escape the country. He was then taken into custody and brought to the investigation unit at Nong Khai Immigration.
During initial questioning, police learned that Mr Tom had gone to Pattaya to find his 20-year-old Lao girlfriend, Ms. Ram, because he was jealous of her job as an entertainer at a nightlife venue. After the two returned to his room in Bangkok, they argued.
Tom still denied committing a brutal murder. He told officers that his girlfriend stabbed herself and died. He then admitted he cut up her body, placed the remains into eight black plastic bags, and dumped them. After that, he reportedly went on with his normal routine and even showed up for work as usual.
Later, at around 8:00 a.m. on March 24, he boarded a flight to Udon Thani. He then spent hours thinking about how to return to Laos. By the evening, he called a motorcycle taxi through a ride app and traveled to the Nong Khai border checkpoint, where immigration police arrested him.
