LAMPANG – Police stopped a major drug shipment after officers at the Sob Prab checkpoint in Lampang caught a 19-year-old driver transporting more than 8 million methamphetamine pills in a pickup truck loaded with vegetables.
The arrest happened under the direction of Pol. Col. Charoon Thinuan, superintendent of Sob Prab Police Station in Lampang. Officers said the suspects tried to hide the drugs under farm produce, using cabbage and Chinese cabbage to make the load look like a normal delivery.
The operation took place at around 2:00 a.m. on March 27, 2026, on the northbound-southbound section of Phahonyothin Road. At that time, officers spotted a black Toyota Revo pickup with a cage-style rear bed, with a Bangkok license plate, entering the checkpoint area.
Police had already received a tip that the vehicle was on a watchlist linked to a drug transport network monitored by Provincial Police Region 5.
When officers signaled the truck to stop, the driver, identified as 19-year-old Phoptham, appeared nervous. He told police he was carrying cabbage and Chinese cabbage to deliver to central parts of the country.
However, a closer inspection told a different story. Under the top layer of vegetables, officers found 27 suspicious fertilizer sacks hidden in the truck bed. After opening the bags, they discovered methamphetamine pills inside.
Police estimated that each sack held about 300,000 pills. In total, the seizure came to more than 8,000,000 meth pills, marking a major drug bust in Lampang.
