CHIANG MAI— In a breakthrough for local law enforcement, authorities have successfully apprehended a fugitive suspected of a brutal murder that shocked the Chiang Mai community. Understanding the severity of the crime, Pol. Lt. Gen. Kritthaphon Yisakorn, Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, ordered an immediate and intense manhunt. He directed his officers to track down Jai Su by any means necessary, emphasizing that crossing into a neighboring country would not guarantee the suspect’s freedom.

Through close coordination with authorities in Myanmar, Thai police successfully secured the suspect’s arrest in less than two weeks. The Meeting: On the evening of May 16, Jai Su was working at the Pa Khoi market, selling beans and sugarcane juice. He received a phone call from the victim, who said she wanted to drink beer with him.
The Pickup: Around 8:30 PM, the suspect rode his motorcycle to pick up the victim from her dormitory in the Mae Jo area. They arrived back at his apartment in San Phi Suea at approximately 9:00 PM.
The Conflict: While the victim consumed alcohol, Jai Su claimed he abstained. According to his statement, the victim began pressuring him to have a sexual relationship with her.
The Identity Claim: Jai Su stated that he rejected her advances, explaining that while he was born with a male body, he identifies mentally as a woman. This rejection allegedly angered the victim.

What happened next, according to the suspect, was a violent physical altercation. Jai Su claimed the victim grabbed him and choked him. He admitted to fighting back and choking her in return, though he said this initial scuffle ended without serious injury.

However, the peace was short-lived. The suspect told police that they sat on the bed to talk, but the victim once again demanded intimacy. The argument flared up with even greater intensity. Jai Su alleged that the victim used a towel to strangle him, which sent him into a blind rage. In his fury, the suspect used his bare hands to strangle the woman to death on his bed.

Hiding the Evidence and Fleeing the Country

Realizing the gravity of what he had just done, Jai Su panicked. Instead of calling the authorities to report the fight, he attempted to conceal the crime.

He dragged the victim’s lifeless body into the apartment’s bathroom to hide it from immediate view.
He quickly packed two or three sets of clothing, spending no more than 10 minutes at the scene.
He immediately fled the apartment, setting off on a journey that would eventually take him across the border.

While Jai Su is now firmly in custody, the investigation is far from over. Police are actively searching for a second individual, identified only as “Mr. Daeng,” who allegedly helped the suspect escape.

According to investigative teams from the Mae Ping Police Station, Mr. Daeng acted as the getaway driver, transporting Jai Su safely to the Mae Sai border checkpoint. When police recently raided Mr. Daeng’s home, he was nowhere to be found, and officers only encountered his daughter.

Local residents in the area provided a crucial tip, noting that a suspicious motorcycle had been parked near the Mueang Kaeo guard post. Authorities are currently tracking these leads to bring Mr. Daeng in for questioning and potential charges related to aiding a known fugitive.
