How To Prevent Your Skin From Aging Too Fast
As you transition into your 30s, 40s, and 50s, you may be concerned about how your skin will start aging. As you naturally grow older, different parts of your body will wrinkle and your skin will start losing its strong elasticity that it once had in your youth.
However, there’s no need to fear. There are some healthy habits that you can adopt to prevent your skin from aging too quickly. Delving into as many of these new habits as you can can keep your skin looking more youthful even as you get older.
Consume A Balanced Diet
Consuming produce, lean proteins, and dairy products lower in fat can help you achieve a balanced diet and keep your skin young. Foods such as tomatoes, almonds, and surprisingly, even dark chocolate are just a few of the many anti-aging foods that you can enjoy.
Have a breakfast with healthy grains in a bowl of oatmeal with a low-fat yogurt and an apple. Eat a healthy salad with lettuce, tomato, onion, cucumber, and grilled chicken and be sure to go light on the salad dressing to cut back on how much calories and fat you are consuming. Follow up with a healthy snack such as a fruit or vegetable tray.
Limit Digital Exposure
Especially if you are on a computer or laptop almost all day for work, the constant blue light exposure can make your skin age faster. When you are at home, limit yourself with how much you are on electronic devices.
Surf the web for a half hour or watch television for an hour and then take a break to do something else. Plus, besides helping your skin, limiting digital exposure can save you money on electricity and improve your mood as you entertain yourself more creatively.
When you do give yourself time to be on electronics, you may even enjoy betting on a favorite casino game. Whatever you decide to do during your electronic time, keep the length of the activity within reason.
Wear Sunglasses
If you want to lessen your chances of developing crow’s feet later in your life, wear sunglasses whenever the sun is out. They will protect the perimeter of your eyes from sun exposure that can lead to aging your skin faster. Take special care to have a few extra sunglasses in your going out bag or vehicle so that you don’t forget them.
Put Down the Pack of Cigarettes
If you smoke, you are already more at risk for developing wrinkles earlier on in the aging process than non-smokers. Smoking makes your blood vessels constrict and become unable to carry the optimal amount of bodily nutrients and oxygen to benefit your skin’s appearance.
Unfortunately, you can reduce your life expectancy by about 10 years by being a smoker. According to the AAFP, non-smokers with a healthy diet can live to be about 85 while people who smoke every day may only live to be about 75. Benefit your life span and your skin by putting the cigarette down!
Have A Daily Skincare Routine
Find a reputable skincare routine that can slow the aging of the skin on your face. Moisturizers, cleansers, exfoliants that are BHA or AHA, or even sunscreen that is at least an SPF30 or higher can get you on track to looking younger in your face.
Time To Start Looking Younger Today
Your body can give you a lot of signs to show you what it needs. Treat it right by taking care of your skin with a daily skincare routine, eating right, and making healthy and conscious decisions about your health status so you can not only look younger but also live longer, too!
