Tom Hollander Sent Tom Holland His 'Avengers' Bonus By Mistake

(CTN News) – British actor Tom Hollander knows all too well the trials and tribulations of being the almost-namesake of another incredibly famous actor.

Tom Holland’s first seven-figure “Avengers” box office bonus was mistakenly sent to “The White Lotus” actor once.

On Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Meyers said to Hollander, “I feel like there is an elephant in the room. There is an actor named Tom Holland.”

As the audience laughed, Tom Hollander responded, “Oh yeah.”.

“Do people make that mistake often?” Meyers asked.

“Yes. It’s been hard. ‘Cause, you know, I was here first. But he’s immensely famous,” Tom Hollander said jokingly.

Despite not looking alike, Tom Hollander said he is frequently mistaken for him “in non-visual contexts,” like when talking to utility companies.

“They ask, ‘And what’s your name?’ and they ask, ‘Tom Holland?’ because they have heard of Tom Holland,” explained Hollander. “And you say, ‘It’s Tom Holland-er’.”

“Or I’m introduced to a child who’s very, very excited, then confused, then disappointed,” he explained. The mother says, ‘My children are eager to meet you.’ And I ask, ‘Are they?'”

As Hollander illustrated, when he asked the parent to bring out their child, they said, “They came out and said, ‘Where is he? Where is he?’ and they said, ‘No. N-no.'”

The accounts department “got confused” when Tom Hollander worked with the agency where the “Spider-Man” star worked – “briefly,” he empathized.

A friend of Hollander was doing theater in England for about £300 ($382) a week, and Hollander sat in the audience “smugly” having just done a BBC show for about £30,000 ($38,000).

When Tom Hollander checked his inbox during the interval, he found an email from his agency stating, “Payment advice slip: your first box-office bonus for ‘The Avengers’.”.

“I thought, ‘I don’t think I’m in The Avengers.’ And I was shocked to see the amount of money. It wasn’t his salary, it was his first box office bonus, not the entire box office, but the first one.

According to him, Holland was “20 or something. So, my feeling of smugness that I had in the first half (of the play), evaporated very quickly. But that’s showbiz. It’s up, it’s down. It’s hero, it’s zero.”

Streaming on Hulu beginning January 31, Tom Hollander will portray Truman Capote in the second season of “Feud” anthology “Capote Vs. The Swans.”
