Wall Street Journal: Meta’s Developing a More Powerful AI System
(CTN News) – The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Meta Platforms is working on a new artificial-intelligence system intended to be as powerful as the most advanced model offered by OpenAI, citing people familiar with the development.
Facebook’s parent company is working on a new AI model that is expected to be ready next year, the Wall Street Journal reported, adding that the new model will be several times more powerful than the commercial version of the product, called Llama 2.
There is a new AI language model called Llama 2, which was released by Meta in July, and is distributed by Microsoft via its cloud Azure service, as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, which are both developed by OpenAI.
Reports in the newspaper suggested that the planned system, the details of which are still unknown, would make it possible for other companies to create services that produce sophisticated text, analysis and other outputs.
It was stated in the report that the company anticipates that it will be able to start working on the new AI system, referred to as a large language model, as early as 2024.
A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately responded to by Meta.
Since the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT at the end of last year, businesses, enterprises and organizations have been flocking to the nascent market for generative AI to improve their business processes and acquire new capabilities.
In July, Bloomberg News reported that Apple Meta’s was working on artificial intelligence offerings similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard.
Apple has built its own framework, known as Ajax, which it uses to generate large language models and is also testing a chatbot that some engineers refer to as “Apple GPT“.
