AT&T Adds $5 Fee To Prepaid Customers

(CTN News) – Would you like to know if you are an AT&T Prepaid customer? You will soon be charged a new fee for your service based on the method of payment you use.

As of yesterday, AT&T has begun to notify customers that they will have to pay a $5 fee if they pay AT&T over the phone.

The new $5 fee will begin on February 14, 2024, and it will apply only to customers paying by phone. If you pay online or by AutoPay, you will not be charged this fee.

First spotted by The Mobile Report, this new fee has been introduced. In addition to the new fee, the automated phone system will also be included.

Using AutoPay, AT&T’s unlimited prepaid plans start at $25 a month and go up to $50 a month. If you pay through a credit card, this new fee will be added to your account at the rate of $5 per month.

Earlier this month, Verizon announced that it would raise the price of some of its legacy plans by $3 to $5 per month beginning January 23, 2023.

The price hike would be Verizon’s third in the last year. In February 2023, select plans increased by $2 per month, and again in July, select plans increased by $3 to $5 per month.

Verizon and T-Mobile have also been gradually moving customers to prepay plans. Carriers benefit from moving customers to autopsy by reducing the number of missed payments.

Here is how you can set up AutoPay with AT&T to avoid this fee:

  1. Visit AT&T’s My Prepaid website.

  2. Make a payment by selecting Make a Payment, and then Pay and Enroll in AutoPay.

  3. The payment method you wish to use can be selected or a new one can be added.

  4. Click on the Continue button.

  5. Please read and agree to the terms of AutoPay.
