Charlie Woods Shoots 16-Over In PGA Tour's 2024 Cognizant Classic Pre-Qualifier

(CTN News) – On Thursday, Charlie Woods had a day to forget as he lost the pre-qualifier for the 2024 Cognizant Classic at the Palm Beaches.

As the son of 15-time major champion Tiger Woods, Michael Woods, shot 16 over par on his first-ever attempt to qualify for a PGA Tour event at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida.

As one of the first players to arrive at Thursday’s pre-qualifier, there was no doubt that the 15-year-old from Birmingham, England, had an all-round bad start, with two bogeys through his first four holes and a double bogey on the fifth hole, resulting in his score of 35 on the day.

Charlie Woods scored 12 on the par-4 seventh hole, his lowest score of the day. He closed out the front nine with a 47, his highest score of the day. As for the back nine, he did a bit better, carding two bogeys, a double bogey, and six pars to finish with a score of 86, two strokes better than his front nine.

In the event that Charlie Woods had produced a top-five performance on Sunday afternoon, he would have advanced to Monday’s final qualifying round, which includes the top 25 players and ties from each of the five qualifying sites.

A total of four players from Monday’s final qualifying round will advance to the Cognizant Classic, which will be held at PGA National Members Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida during the week of Feb. 29 to March 3.

Despite the fact that Charlie Woods is undoubtedly disappointed with the result, the event on Thursday was a great opportunity for him to acquire more experience.

As a teenager, he has already accomplished a lot, too, including competing in the last four PNC Championships alongside his father and helping his high school golf team win the state championship. The Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship that he took part in in November also saw him tie for 17th place.

We might not have to wait too long before we see Charlie Woods on the PGA Tour representing the next generation of golfers as he is currently qualifying for a PGA Tour event.
