KRABI, Thailand – A couple vacationing at a hotel in Krabi, Thailand, faced a scary surprise. A big black cobra slithered into their room while they slept. The woman was woken up as she felt something cold slide across her neck.
She jumped out of bed in a rush. That woke her partner. At first, he thought it was a bad dream or a ghost. But the snake hissed loudly and meanly. So he knew it was real. “Snake… it crawled over my neck,” she said in panic.
Hotel workers called experts right away. The team pulled the upset snake from under the bed. They let it go back into nature. Luckily, no one got bitten. Still, the couple called it a shocking ordeal.
Experts say the snake measured about 1.5 meters, or 5 feet long. It probably squeezed in through a tiny gap under the door.
The story spread fast online after the guests posted a video on Facebook. Now, local officials and travel pros warn visitors. Always shut doors and windows tight. Do this extra at spots near woods or beaches.
Thailand has over 200 snake types. About 60 pack venom. Hospitals see 7,000 to 8,000 bites a year.
Cobra Snakes in Thailand
Cobras rank among the world’s most famous snakes. People fear their strong poison, wide hoods, and bold moves. You find them in Asia and Africa mostly. The main group comes from the Naja genus. King cobras belong to another one.
Spot a cobra by its hood. The snake spreads its skin on each side of its head when scared. This scares off attackers. Most grow 1 to 2 meters long. Some get much bigger.
All cobras carry venom. Many have a neurotoxin that hits nerves hard. Bites bring paralysis or breathing trouble. Without help, they can kill. Spitting types shoot venom at the eyes. That causes bad pain or even blindness.
Take the king cobra. It’s the longest venomous snake alive. It stretches past 5 meters. Yet it shies from people. It eats other snakes mainly.
