Phuket Police Seize Grenades, Firearms, Drugs in Raids

(CTN News) – During operations in Wichit, Chalong, and Phuket Town, the Phuket Provincial Police confiscated two fragmentation grenades, firearms, ammunition, and drugs.

Multiple Arrests Made in Recent Drug and Gun Busts in Phuket

The recent drug and gun busts were publicized yesterday by The Phuket News, albeit the newspaper did not specify when the arrests occurred.

The Phuket Provincial Police Commissioner’s Office, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Pichit Thongto, made five arrests during the raids.

Major General Sermphan Sirikong, Deputy Commander Colonel Kittipong Klaikaew, Chief of Investigations Colonel Ekaluck Boonsaengcharoen, and Deputy Chiefs of Investigations Lieutenant Colonels Phairot Thanaphanathon and Supap Saelim were also involved in the operations.

During the initial investigation, three people were detained at a rented room on Soi Boonbandar in Wichita. A handmade handgun and a factory-made Smith & Wesson revolver with the serial number erased were among the goods confiscated.

Also found were two hand grenades: a Chinese Type 82-2S and an American M19 A2. In addition to the meth and ammunition, authorities seized 49.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine (‘ice’) and 314 pills of methamphetamine (Yaba). Wichit Police took custody of the accused and filed the appropriate charges against them.

The suspect with the grenades stated during the first interrogation that the explosive devices were not his and that he had just kept them in his home at the request of a “friend.” The police did not elaborate on whether or not they believed this claim.

The second incident involved the arrest of a lady in Chalong who possessed 402 Yaba tablets, about 0.05 grams of ice, a “drug distribution book,” and other items. The Chalong Police were given the suspect, who was then formally charged.

In the third incident, a guy was detained at a Caltex petrol station in Chalong, near the Soi Ta-Ied entrance. The individual was found to have 1.02 grams of ice and other evidence. The Chalong Police were given the suspect, who was then formally charged.

In the fourth incident, a man was found with seven Yaba tablets and 0.09 grams of ice at a Chalong’s Moo 9 residence. The Chalong Police were given the suspect, who was then formally charged.

Five people were arrested in Phuket Town, with 1,174 Yaba tablets and 15.18 grams of ice in the fifth case. Both suspects were taken into custody and sent to Phuket City Police Station.

This arrest, according to the Phuket Provincial Police, was made in coordination with the Provincial Security Office.
