CHIANG RAI – Cyber police arrested a married couple at their home in Chiang Rai after accusing them of working as admins for an online gambling website. Investigators said the site handled more than 30 million baht in monthly circulation.
On March 21, police from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau carried out a court-approved search at a house in Ban San That, Yonok Subdistrict, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai. Officers arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Thatthana, and his 27-year-old wife, Nattnicha, both from Chiang Rai.
Police also seized several items from the home, including two desktop computer sets, three laptops, and two mobile phones.
The arrest followed an investigation by officers from Subdivision 4 of the Cyber Crime Investigation Division 4. Police said they found an online gambling website with more than 12,000 members.
The site had reportedly been operating for over five months and offered several types of betting, such as lottery, slots, international football betting, Pok Deng, and other gambling games.
According to investigators, the platform generated an average cash flow of more than 30 million baht per month, or over 360 million baht per year. After gathering evidence, officers asked the Chiang Rai Provincial Court for a search warrant and then moved in to arrest the two suspects.
During questioning, Thatthana admitted he was hired to work as an admin and promote the gambling website. He told police he was paid 35% of the site’s monthly revenue as his share. His wife reportedly worked as a customer service admin, answering messages from users, and received a salary of 20,000 baht per month.
Police have initially charged both suspects with jointly promoting, advertising, and persuading others, either directly or indirectly, to take part in online gambling without legal permission from authorities.
