CHIANG MAI – A driver has surrendered himself to the police after a video of his road rage went viral as he screamed at crash victims. Those victims included an elderly woman on a motorcycle, another woman riding behind her, and a scared 4-year-old girl.
The incident happened on April 1. It started on a road in Mae Hia subdistrict, Mueang district. A black Nissan sedan clipped the motorcycle. The bike tumbled over. Instead of stopping to help, the man yelled threats. He cursed them out. The little girl shook in fear. She was also injured in the fall.
Social media blew up fast. People shared the clip everywhere. Many commenters called out his bad behavior. Some even said he acts like this often. Police tracked him down quickly. They identified him as 33-year-old Thammarat Saosri Jun.
By the afternoon of April 2, he showed up at Chiang Mai City Police Station. He drove the same black Nissan. Spotting reporters, he tried to sneak in the back way. That didn’t work. An angry crowd waited for him.
They grabbed his shirt collar. They shouted at him. Officers stepped in fast. They pulled him inside safely for questioning.
After the initial talk, police searched his car. Thammarat spoke to reporters. He said he drove normally at first. Then the motorcycle swerved from the left lane into his path. It didn’t check mirrors. The crash happened. He got out to check. A
nger took over because the elderly driver seemed reckless. He kicked a water bottle in frustration. He claimed worry for the child, not intent to yell at her. Now the video embarrasses him. He feels bad. He wants to apologize to everyone involved.
Pol. Col. Prachya Thitsala, the station chief, gave details. Thammarat admitted everything. He blamed a moment of rage. He apologized to the victims and the Chiang Mai folks. Still, evidence shows dangerous driving. Police ignored others’ safety. They plan to collect more evidence next.
They charged him with three offenses right away. First, reckless driving under the traffic law. That carries up to one year in jail and fines from 5,000 to 20,000 baht. Second, threats that scared people. It’s a criminal charge with lighter penalties. Third, he tested positive for morphine. So they added driving under the influence of illegal drugs.
Officers seized the black Nissan as evidence. They will ask the Chiang Mai Provincial Court to hold it. They also want his license suspended. His actions endanger roads. Crashes could happen again.
The victims went to the hospital right away. Elderly driver Jindaworn Tanwong is 62. Passenger Khamkhuang Lungyi is 30. The girl, Natthaporn Muling, is just 4. All three got injuries.
Police urge anyone else hurt by this car to report it. Check stations like Hang Dong or San Phai too. They want full evidence for all charges. Justice comes for every victim.
