German Couple Die in Early Morning Townhouse Fire in Bangkok

BANGKOK – A devastating fire broke out in a four-story townhouse in Bangkok’s Bang Na district early Sunday morning. The blaze, which began while residents were likely asleep, resulted in the deaths of two women and left two German men injured.

According to a report by the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. on April 19, 2026. Emergency services were called to a housing estate located directly opposite Soi Udomsuk 33 on Udom Suk Road.

When firefighters and rescue volunteers arrived, they found flames heavily engulfing the second and third floors of the building. Pol Lt Wirat Samran, the deputy investigation chief at Bang Na police station, noted that the fire had gained a “firm hold” on the middle floors of the four-story unit.

The emergency teams worked quickly to prevent the disaster from worsening. It took about 30 minutes for the fire crews to bring the flames under control. Their efforts were successful in stopping the fire from spreading to the adjacent townhouses, which could have led to even more casualties in the densely packed residential area.

Casualties and Injuries

Despite the rapid response, the aftermath of the fire was tragic. Once the flames were extinguished, rescuers searched the charred remains and discovered the bodies of two women.

The victims have been identified as:

A 70-year-old German woman: Her identity was confirmed shortly after the search.
A 40-year-old woman: As of the latest reports, her full identity remains unconfirmed.

Medical experts and forensic teams from the Police General Hospital and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation believe that both women died from smoke inhalation.

Two other residents, both German nationals, managed to escape the building but sustained injuries during the ordeal:

A 50-year-old man: He suffered significant burns and was rushed to Lerdsin Hospital for specialized treatment.
A 20-year-old man: He suffered from smoke inhalation and was transported to Thai Nakharin Hospital.

Investigation into the Cause

The townhouse was almost destroyed by the intensity of the heat and flames. Forensic officers and investigators spent the morning examining the debris to determine how the fire started.

While a final cause has not yet been officially released, investigators are looking at all possibilities, including electrical faults or accidental ignition. No signs of foul play have been reported at this stage.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of residential fires, especially in multi-story townhouses where escape routes can quickly become blocked by thick smoke.
