CHAIYAPHUM – A police corporal has been taken into custody and faces serious criminal charges following a violent assault on his girlfriend, a local assistant nurse, in an incident that has sparked national outrage.
The suspect, identified as Police Corporal “A” (alias), allegedly physically abused the victim and shared private, sensitive photographs of her in a public Line group chat while under the influence of narcotics. The Pavena Foundation for Children and Women has stepped in to provide legal and psychological support as the victim remains in a state of high distress and fear for her safety.
The harrowing details emerged after the victim, an assistant nurse working in Chaiyaphum Province, sought help from Mrs. Pavena Hongsakul, the president of the Pavena Foundation. According to the victim’s testimony, the relationship had been marked by escalating volatility, largely driven by the officer’s reported drug use.
The situation reached a breaking point when the corporal allegedly attacked her, causing visible physical injuries. Following the assault, the suspect reportedly used the victim’s private images—taken without her consent or shared in confidence—to humiliate her further. He allegedly uploaded these photos into a Line group containing numerous members, a move seen by legal experts as a direct attempt to destroy her reputation and professional life.
Police Response and Drug Admission
Law enforcement officials acted quickly following the formal complaint. Major General Surapong Thanomjit, a senior commander in the Royal Thai Police, ordered an immediate investigation into the conduct of the junior officer.
Key developments in the investigation include:
- Narcotics Use: Upon being detained, the corporal underwent a drug test, which returned positive for “Ice” (crystal methamphetamine). He reportedly confessed to using the substance.
- Disciplinary Action: Senior officials have confirmed that the suspect is being dealt with “straightforwardly.” In addition to criminal charges for physical assault and violations of the Computer Crimes Act, he faces severe disciplinary proceedings that could lead to his dismissal from the force.
- Search for Evidence: Forensic teams have seized the officer’s mobile devices to trace the distribution of the leaked photos and gather digital footprints for the prosecution.
Mrs. Pavena Hongsakul has been vocal about the need for systemic change regarding domestic violence involving law enforcement. She noted that the victim is currently too traumatized to return to her home or workplace, fearing retaliation.
“The foundation is coordinating with all relevant agencies to ensure full protection for the survivor,” Mrs. Pavena stated during a press briefing. She emphasized that a comprehensive physical and mental health examination is being conducted to build a foolproof legal case against the perpetrator. The foundation is also working to ensure that the leaked images are removed from digital platforms to prevent further harm.
This incident highlights a troubling intersection of domestic abuse, drug addiction within the ranks of the police, and “revenge porn.” In Thailand, the Computer Crimes Act carries heavy penalties for the distribution of obscene material or data that causes damage to others.
Colonel Kachen Setaputta, Deputy Commander of the Chaiyaphum Provincial Police, addressed the media, stating that violence against women is unacceptable, especially when committed by those sworn to uphold the law. He assured the public that there would be no “blue wall of silence” or special treatment for the accused officer.
The victim continues to receive counseling. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of reporting domestic violence early and the critical role that organizations like the Pavena Foundation play in bridging the gap between victims and the justice system.
