BANGKOK – An STI test is not something most people want to spend half a day arranging. For visitors to Bangkok, finding a clinic in an unfamiliar part of the city can add another complication. Residents may simply prefer to deal with it privately at home.
Ovio Wellness offers private STI testing in Bangkok, with a nurse visiting homes and hotels to collect samples. The service is available to people living in the city as well as those staying for only a few days.
To arrange a visit, send Ovio your location and a brief explanation of what you need. You do not have to work out the right test or package beforehand.
At Ovio Wellness you not need to know which test to book
Ovio offers testing for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Individual tests and packages are available, with options for herpes, HPV and hepatitis B and C too. A doctor can help work out what is appropriate.
The choice depends on your symptoms, the type of sexual contact and how long it has been since a possible exposure. No single test checks for every infection.
Depending on the test, the nurse may need a blood sample, urine or a swab. Ovio lists both urine and swab PCR testing for chlamydia and gonorrhoea. Which sample is suitable depends on what is being checked, so it is worth being frank with the healthcare professional about your concerns.
The nurse comes to you
For visitors who do not know Bangkok well, a hotel visit means one less unfamiliar address to find. Residents can arrange collections at home. Ovio confirms whether a visit can be made to your location before the booking goes ahead.
A nurse collects the samples during the appointment, and those requiring laboratory analysis are processed afterwards. Ask about preparation when booking, and make sure the quoted price includes any collection or consultation fees. If you are in a hotel, sort out access for the visit beforehand.
Privacy at home or in a hotel
Some people are comfortable discussing sexual health in a clinic. Others prefer the privacy of their own accommodation. Ovio describes its approach as private and without judgement.
A home visit still needs a little thought if you share accommodation. Pick somewhere you can talk without being overheard. You can also ask how results will be sent, especially if someone else has access to your email or phone.
When should you test?
Testing too early after an exposure can miss an infection. Give the healthcare professional the date so they can advise when to test and whether to repeat it. If a possible HIV exposure was within the past 72 hours, seek urgent medical assessment for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). Do not wait for a routine appointment.
There is no single turnaround time for every test. Ovio explains the next steps for the tests selected, so ask when yours should be ready and who can help interpret them. A positive or unclear result may need further assessment; any additional consultation or treatment should be discussed separately.
