Measles: Symptoms, Prevention, And Treatment

(CTN News) – Health officials in Madhya Pradesh reported on February 19 that two children had died from suspected measles and 17 others had been infected.

To prevent the spread of the disease, a medical team has been deployed, according to the official. In European countries as well, a sharp increase in cases has been observed since 2023.

More than 58,000 people in 41 of 53 Member States of the Region – stretching from Europe to central Asia – were infected with last year, leading to thousands of hospitalizations and 10 deaths. The increased number of measles cases has been attributed to a lack of vaccinations.

Basically, measles is an infectious respiratory disease. Usually, children are affected by this highly contagious disease. As a result, serious illnesses, complications, and even death may result. The disease is transmitted through the respiratory tract and then spreads throughout the body.

There are several common symptoms associated with measles, including cough, fever, red eyes, runny nose, sore throat, and white spots in the mouth.

Immunizations:

Measles can be prevented most effectively by vaccination. Vaccination against the disease is mandatory for all children. A strong immunity is achieved by administering two doses of the vaccine to children in most countries.

In accordance with the CDC, the two doses are 97% effective against the virus. Chickenpox vaccination is also combined with the MMR vaccine in some countries.

• In the event of an outbreak, avoid traveling to crowded places in order to prevent exposure to the disease

• It is important not to ignore the symptoms of measles and to seek medical attention as soon as possible
