“Night Swim” Also Has a Strong Opening Weekend, Along With “Wonka”
(CTN News) – Wonka, Timothée Chalamet’s musical, and Night Swim, the new horror flick, are keeping the box office afloat after the holidays.
There is no doubt that Willy Wonka is the best
As of yet, Wonka remains the box office king despite facing its first challenger since making its debut during the Christmas week.
There’s a good chance that Warner Bros.’s colorful origin story for the iconic chocolatier will get an additional $15 million to $16 million this weekend, which will push the domestic total over $165 million.
As a result of the film’s catchy tunes and Chalamet’s charismatic performance, the movie seems to be winning the hearts of audiences.
There are some decent dives to be had at Night Swim
One of the only new wide releases of the weekend was Night Swim, produced by two horror powerhouses, Jason Blum and James Wan.
Night Swim opened to a respectable $12.5 million from 3,250 theaters over the weekend. It is important to note that even though the film starring Wyatt Russell did not set the world on fire, it performed better than expected, as reflected in its C CinemaScore from critics.
Although Night Swim won’t be a summer blockbuster, there’s a good chance that it will find loyal fans among genre film fans.
This weekend, the animated family film Migration will continue to run in third place, with an estimated budget of $10.5 million to $11 million, according to estimates.
As a result, the film will have grossed over $78 million domestically, showing that heartwarming animation can still draw crowds even after the holiday season has ended.
As a whole, the box office is down about 16% compared to last weekend, which was expected after the holidays.
Despite this, there is a possibility that the doldrums might be short-lived, as a few more new releases are expected to arrive next week, including the M Night Shyamalan thriller Knock at the Cabin.
