Floating lanterns during Loy Krathong Festival Chiang Rai

CHIANG RAI – Thai Airways International Public Company Limited has announced an adjustment to its flight schedules and cancellation of some flights bound for Chiang Rai Thailand during Loy Krathong Festival in order to avoid danger from floating lanterns.

According to Flight Lieutenant Pratana Patanasiri, Vice President of the Aviation Safety, Security and Standards Department of THAI, the adjustment is necessary as Loy Krathong celebrants in various provinces in the North usually hold the lantern floating tradition which may interrupt or cause danger to flights.

For the ultimate safety standard of aviation, Flt.Lt. Pratana said Thai Airways decided to adjust and cancel northern bound flights during 5-7 November.
TG 136 with the old departure time from Bangkok at 18.30 and arrive in Chiang Rai at 19.50 will be moved up to departure time of 15.55 in order to arrive in Chiang Rai at 17.15. TG 137 with departure time from Chiang Rai at 20.05 is moved up to 17.50 in order to arrive in Bangkok at 19.10.

The two flights to and from Chiang Rai will be operated by its sister airline Thai Smile, according to the airline.
