WhatsApp Is Rolling Out Voice Note Transcription To More Users.

(CTN News) – According to WABetaInfo, the intriguing voice message transcription feature on WhatsApp is now accessible to a wider range of iOS users.

Previously, this feature was only available to a select group of beta testers on iOS. However, with the recent version update to 23.25.10.70, it has been made available to more users.

The WhatsApp news tracker stated, “Finally, it seems that WhatsApp is gradually introducing the capability to transcribe voice messages to additional users who install the latest version of the app.”

To provide a visual representation of how the new feature operates, a screenshot from the announcement for beta testers is included.

The transcription is included in the message bubble as shown in the screenshot, indicating that a voice note has been sent.

According to WABetaInfo, this feature is automatically enabled. However, if you prefer not to have your voice messages transcribed,

You can disable the feature by going to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts.

It is important to note that this feature maintains end-to-end encryption at all times, as the transcription process occurs locally on the user’s device using language packs. This information was mentioned in a previous article regarding the availability of the feature for beta testers.

Only certain users on newer versions of iOS have access to the transcription feature, as it utilizes the latest APIs provided by iOS 16. This allows the app to process voice messages locally on the user’s device, eliminating the need to send the message to external servers.

Additionally, the transcription feature enables users to search for specific information within the transcribed message. The text is indexed, making it easily searchable.

To test this feature, beta testers can install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app. In the following weeks, the feature will be gradually rolled out to a wider audience.
