CHIANG MAI – Indian elite athlete Sanjay Negi captured the Men’s Overall Elite title at the global obstacle course racing event, the 2026 Chiang Mai Spartan Weekend & HH4HR, held at Huay Tung Tao Reservoir and Lan Noen Num on June 6, 2026.
Negotiating a grueling 10-kilometer course packed with 25 signature obstacles, Negi finished ahead of international competitors, while former Thai national trail runner Jantaraboon “Super J” Kiangchaiphaipana finished fifth overall.
As the top Thai performer, Kiangchaiphaipana secured his qualification spot for the upcoming Spartan Super World Championship, scheduled to take place in Chiang Rai at the end of this year.
The mass-participation sports event, designed to boost sports tourism and local economies, drew thousands of international participants and is expected to generate millions in regional revenue.

Sanjay Dominates the Demanding 10K Super Course
The opening day of the festival featured the challenging “Super 10K” category, pushing elite racers across a rugged forest terrain set against the backdrop of Chiang Mai’s iconic mountain ranges.
Sanjay Negi from India showcased exceptional endurance and technical skill, crossing the finish line in a blistering time of 57 minutes and 15 seconds to claim the gold. The international podium was rounded out by:
- Second Place: Royneil Dela Fuente from the Philippines, finishing with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 16 seconds.
- Third Place: Chris Davis from the United Kingdom, trailing closely behind at 1 hour, 1 minute, and 16 seconds.
Local Favorite ‘Super J’ Battles Slick Conditions for Top-Five Finish
Thailand’s premier performance came from Jantaraboon Kiangchaiphaipana, a well-known former national trail runner representing KAILAS Thailand. Known affectionately by fans as “Super J,” Kiangchaiphaipana finished fifth in the Men’s Overall Elite rankings with a time of 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 47 seconds.
Speaking after the race, Kiangchaiphaipana noted that this was only his second time competing in a Spartan event after a three-year hiatus from obstacle racing.
Operating with the advantage of being a local athlete familiar with the regional climate, he managed to stay within striking distance of the leading pack for most of the race. However, slippery conditions during the final set of obstacles caused a minor slip, costing him a podium finish but successfully ensuring his progression to the world stage.

Strategic Partnership Drives Massive Tourism and Economic Impact
The event is the result of a coordinated effort between several major public and private organizations. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) partnered with the Tourism and Sports Office of the Royal Thai Army, Chiang Mai Province, and race organizer Runrio Thailand to secure the official global hosting rights.
Organizers chose the military-managed lands at Lan Noen Num and the scenic lakeside terrain of Huay Tung Tao Reservoir to showcase Chiang Mai’s potential for adventure tourism. According to official estimates, welcoming more than 3,000 athletes and their families from over 30 countries is expected to circulate more than 150 million Baht into the local hospitality, retail, and transportation sectors.
Beyond the immediate economic benefits, the Chiang Mai weekend serves as a critical stepping stone for elite athletes aiming for the pinnacle of obstacle course racing.
Top finishers from this event automatically qualify for the prestigious 2026 Spartan Super World Championship & Trifecta Weekend. This grand finale is scheduled to take place in Chiang Rai Province in December 2026, marking a historic moment for Southeast Asian sports tourism as the world’s best obstacle racers converge in Northern Thailand.

Weekend Lineup Expands with Sprint and Kids Races
The competitive spirit continues into the second day of the festival, expanding the event to amateur athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and families.
The schedule for the remainder of the weekend includes:
- Spartan Sprint: A fast-paced 5-kilometer course featuring 20 distinct obstacle challenges designed for speed and agility.
- Spartan Kids Race: Specialized courses ranging from 1 to 3 kilometers combined with age-appropriate obstacles to foster physical fitness among young participants.
